Eventually I'll get around to posting pics from Dragon*Con

I'm so very glad that tomorrow is Friday.

My parents are in town this week for appointments with their respective cardiologists. So, on Monday night, my mom had some bleeding, and since she is 10-years post-menopausal, she called her Dr. in GA and he told her to go to the ER. She went to an Urgent Care place instead, and--to make a long story a bit shorter--had an ultrasound today that doesn't look good. She'll have a biopsy on Tuesday to rule out fibroids, but otherwise she's looking at a endometrial (uterine) cancer diagnosis.

I went to the doctor with her on Tuesday and again today, and am just emotionally exhausted (which is not even close to what she's feeling, of course).

I'm so glad she was here when this happened, because the Duke doctors have been great so far. I'll post as soon as I know something, but I'd love for her to be in your thoughts/prayers until then.

Here's the careers meme that's been going around:

1. Go to www.careercruising.com
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions.
4. Post the top ten results.

1.Probation / Parole Officer
2.Career Counselor
3.Social Worker
4.Anthropologist
5.Addictions Counselor
6.Foreign Service Officer
7.Clergy
8.Rehabilitation Counselor
9.Psychologist
10.Sport Psychology Consultant
11.Archivist
12.Politician
13.Lobbyist
14.Corporate / Commercial Lawyer
15. Judge

Most of these are things I've considered doing (minus the corporate law and Sports consultant thing). Interesting. My mom was actually a counselor in the juvenile court system for years before doing the stay-at-home mom thing, so that runs in the family, I guess.

Many of my f-listers have had some rough days recently, so *hugs* to all of you!

So, Zoe survived her first day of first grade intact. She seems to like her teacher, and her 3 best girl friends are in her class, so she's happy.

First Day of School (with Maeve, who was feeling jealous )

Please ignore Maeve's crazy hair--she's such a wiggle worm that I've completely given up on trying to make her hair look cute.

I've got to start doing laundry, etc. to get ready for Dragon*Con. I can't wait!! The great thing about Dragon*Con being in Atlanta is that I get to go home and see my non-fandom friends, as well as everyone I've met online. I'm planning on letting Zoe get her picture taken with the Weasley twins and (most importantly!)Matthew Lewis. It'll be nice to revel in my geekery in a public forum :P

Semi-related--I've read such good fic here on IJ in just the past few days! I'm glad to see that not only have some of my favorite writers/artists moved over here, but I've discovered so many new (to me, at least) writers in all my different fandoms. I've bookmarked so may fics to read--I'll have to do a recs post soon.

Guh. So tired.

I can't remember the last time I felt this tired.

This is the busiest (or at least, most physically demanding) week of the year for us at work, since we handle all the Orientation events for new students. I love this group of students and I enjoy the work, but by the end of the day today, I was sticky with sweat and sore down to my bones. It would be easier if I didn't have to wear a suit and heels. I don't do high heels--mine are like a inch high--but uncomfortable nonetheless.

It's only 8 pm, but I think I might just go to bed.

The Things You Do For Your Kids

One of my coworkers had a few extra tickets to My Little Pony Live!, so I'll be taking the girls to see that tomorrow. I was poking around the website to see if I could find out how long it would last, and it looks so hideous.

This is the program description:"This 90-minute interactive musical production features singing, dancing and audience participation. Parents will enjoy the Broadway-quality stagecraft and original script. Children will recognize songs such as “I’m a Little Teapot” and enjoy new tunes like “Positively Pink,” “Shake Your Cutie” and “You’re Cordially Invited.” And, along the way, children will learn important lessons about the true meaning of friendship from the wholesome, loving and playful spirit of everybody’s favorite MY LITTLE PONY friends." Shake Your Cutie?!?!?!

This has been a particularly long week at work. The new students come for Orientation next week, so we're in the frenzy of getting ready for that, and I'm the only other person in the office who's been here this week, so I'm really ready for this week to end.

I've given lots of thought about what to do about LJ, and I think I'll keep it for now, because my RL friends are staying, and I need to keep up with them. I'm not sure if or how often I'll update it, though--and when my paid account runs out in January, I won't be renewing it.

So, I'm here and at JF for the long haul.

If I've friended you, hello!
